Lemonade Day
Sponsored by Trilogy and its many community partners, Lemonade Day is a city-wide educational program, on the first Sunday in May, designed to teach kids how to become entrepreneurs by running their own lemonade stand. In Houston in 2009, over 27,000 youth registered for Lemonade Day, sold over 2 million cups of lemonade and donated close to $500,000 to their favorite charities. During Austin’s pilot program, close to 2,500 youth registered, sold over 158,000 cups of lemonade and donated close to $38,000 to their favorite charities.
Children that register will receive a backpack and information booklets that outline the steps needed to start a business from creating a budget and finding investors to saving money and donating a portion back to the community. It provides an opportunity for families, businesses, faith-based community organizations and schools to come together for a common purpose -- to train the next generation of entrepreneurs through a free, fun, engaging, hands-on activity.
