Spring Service Day 2007 at LifeWorks
On May 4, EF hosted its first annual Spring Service Day with local non-profit LifeWorks. Nearly 200 volunteers from 22 local companies came together to participate in various service projects at four Lifeworks sites. LifeWorks is Austin's only non-profit organization to provide a continuum of services to youth and families, addressing critical needs to achieve lasting, positive change. Spring Service Day projects included gardening, land beautification, internal and external painting, and light construction. Spring Service Day was made possible by sponsors Postini, Silicon Labs and vcfo.
We were overwhelmed by the generosity and the tenacity of the Entrepreneurs Foundation volunteers. They applied all the innovation and drive you associate with entrepreneurial success to the renovation of LifeWorks' facilities, and in one day accomplished work that would have otherwise taken us months and thousands of dollars to complete.
-Susan McDowell, Executive Director of LifeWorks
Fall Service Day 2006 at Mary Jane Sims Elementary School
On October 13 150 volunteers from Austin's high-tech community converged on Mary Jane Sims Elementary School in East Austin to celebrate the school's advancement as a Recognized School under the Texas Educational Agency's accountability rankings. Just four years ago, Sims was rated Low Performing under TAAS standards. The 150 volunteers, organized by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas, landscaped, painted, cleaned, repaired, assembled math and science projects, and otherwise celebrated the great work of Sim's students, parents, teachers and staff. Fall Service Day 2006 was generously sponsored by Webify.
As I walk the campus each day, I am reminded of the many contributions that the Entrepreneurs Foundation provided to Mary Jane Sims Elementary School during the Fall Service Day. These many acts of kindness will have a lasting effect on the school and the community. Your group is to be commended for your hard work and your willingness to do good things for children. I am so thankful that our campus was chosen for this wonderful event.

Fall Service Day 2005 During the fall 2005, Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas (EFCT) volunteers made a huge impact in the local community by giving of their time to help support Austin-area non-profit organizations. This fall, 143 volunteers from 10 EFCT companies donated over 675 volunteer hours during one-day volunteer service opportunities with 6 different non-profit organizations. Collectively, our volunteers:

|
- Packed, moved and unpacked a library of over 12,000 books (including bookshelves) for Capital Area Reach out and Read, a local non-profit organization committed to promoting youth literacy for those less fortunate in the capital area.
- Sorted 11,100 pounds of food (equal to meals for 8,080 individuals in need) and 3,600 pounds of diapers for the Capital Area Food Bank.
- Mowed the lawn, planted flowers, cleared brush & cleaned up trash for the Center for Child Protection, a non-profit organization committed to reducing the trauma to children during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
- Completely re-furbished the home exterior for an elderly home-owner in East Austin through Hands on Housing. Volunteers power-washed & re-painted the home’s exterior & garage; replaced eaves, rotten sideboards and trim and beautified, cleaned up & mowed the back yard.
A Big Thank You to our 2005 Fall Service Day Volunteers!

As part of the Entrepreneurs Foundation’s East Austin Revitalization Project, six homes in the Chestnut Neighborhood were refurbished in just two days! home’s exterior to completely transforming a homeowner’s kitchen. Homes and sheds were power-washed and painted, weathered wood structures were repaired or replaced, flowers were planted, over 30 cabinets were stripped and re-finished, molded wall-paper was peeled away, outdated wood paneling was removed, kitchen and bathroom floors were re-tiled and a porch railing was erected. At the end of the day, the lives of these 6 homeowners and each of the volunteers involved were forever changed.
A huge thank you to our volunteers from A Glimmer of Hope, Austin Ventures, Dell, Erick Man Studios, Global Summit Partners, HyPerformix, MegaPath, NetBotz, Newgistics, QuickArrow, Siebel/Ineto, St. Edward’s, Triton Ventures and Whole Security. In addition, thank you to Hugh Sparks from Hands on Housing for your support and guidance in this effort; and a very large thank you to Wade Osborne from Helping Hands Home Improvement for all your hard work, leadership and assistance with some major construction projects! (Thank you as well to Austin Ventures for involving Wade.) Each of your efforts helped make Chestnut Neighborhood a prettier place to call home. |
